Our Mission

Fundamenta Reading Center increases the reading skills, proficiency and confidence of elementary school learners, regardless of family income, enabling their future success.

How We Got Started

After 16 years of working in the classroom and watching numerous students continue to struggle in reading our founder, Cynthia Majors, knew that she needed to do something. That something was the creation of Life Long Learners Reading Center. Cynthia desired to help struggling readers develop strategies that would help them for a lifetime. It is that desire that pushed her to look for a solution to a hidden, yet growing problem in education: illiteracy. She recognized that a change was needed in the way that reading was taught.

Cynthia served the center for 5 years watching students come and go, each building confidence and becoming a stronger reader. Yet she knew there was more to come. This was the beginning of Fundamenta Reading Center. A nonprofit literacy center designed to help readers of all ages and all economic backgrounds. The same great program, but with an expanded vision to make reading instruction accessible to all learners regardless of family income. Cynthia believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn to read.
